Secure Your Auto Tags and License Plate
Have you ever given a thought to secure your auto tags and license plate? In less than 10 seconds, your tag can be removed whole from your car’s license plate. Do you know that you could change your tag? It will break into many unusable pieces should anyone think about taking it? This will make it useless to anyone. They will be able to “feel” the change. They will realize that this tag will not be worth the effort to remove it from your vehicle. Your tag will still look like an unmodified tag from several feet away.

This modification makes the tag useless during removal. You can do it in less than a minute with simple tools. Use a razor blade knife any time after the tag has been attached to the license plate.
Remove those old tags first
Before the new tag is theft proof it must be on bare metal. That means that the old tag(s) have to be cleared before applying the new tag. With the old tags left in place and the new tag placed on top of them, it is possible to remove the tags in one piece. Even if cut with a razor blade. So remove all the old tags. A razor blade scraper works well for this task.
Secure that license plate
The last thing you need to do is secure your license plate with special security screws. You want to make it difficult to remove. In other words, make it less attractive to the thieves so they will move on to easier targets. Many different types of security screws and bolts are available. They replace the standard screws or bolts your vehicle uses.

A homegrown method
The method in the video below removes the standard screws. The replacement bolts cannot be loosened. Using standard hardware and an ingenious method allows the screws to turn. But they will not get loose.
There you have it. Follow these practices. No one can remove your tag in one piece. It becomes unusable if they try. Security bolts secure your license plate making other vehicles more attractive targets.
I wouldn’t want to be the other guys, the lines are long at the DMV.
