Should you store your RV on the level?

Fifth-wheel

Should you store your RV on the level? I say NO! Here’s why I don’t store mine on the level for two reasons. I store it so it’s protected from rain getting into the rig during winter. I also store it not on the level for security reasons.

Winter rain

I don’t like to leave my rig level while it is stored/parked. Why did you ask? Well it’s like this, I like my rig level from side to side but front to rear I like it to incline. This way when the rainy season arrives(here in California we call that winter) the water will not have a chance of pooling anywhere on the roof.  So in case, I missed something on the roof inspection before I stowed it away the water will be less likely to cause great damage. All because the rig is inclined front to rear(not just a little but its inclined a lot) so the water is going to run off that roof rather quickly.

Theft deterrence

Also since I have the front of the rig really high it makes it a less than attractive target for theft. That’s right theft. Mine is a fifth wheel and you know how slow those front legs move. Well if you didn’t know, they move very slowly. If the culprits have to spend time moving the rig down so that the fifth wheel hitch can be engaged they may look at something else instead of my rig. I also have a battery disconnect switch with a removable key. So if they don’t have a key those slow-moving front legs are not going to be moving at all. I also keep a pin lock on the rig so they will need to work on that too after lowering the rig.

How about the refrigerator?

Are you going to run your refrigerator while it is stored/parked? This is the only reason you need to keep the rig level while stored. Well, sometimes I have visitors that need a place to stay. My rig is parked on my home’s driveway inclined. That’s why my rig is level from side to side. I can quickly level it in the front to back direction and the refrigerator is ready to be fired up.

You be the judge

Should you store your RV on the level while stored/parked? An extra layer of protection from water intrusion and another couple of layers of security is yours if you don’t store it level. Who knew that not being on the level would prove so valuable.
