What does SRS mean?

what does srs mean SRS LightMy SRS light recently came on again, what does SRS mean? I don’t know why it’s on, and worse I don’t know what it is trying to tell me. This light has been coming and going away for a couple of months. I had been thinking it was part of the anti-skid braking system. Boy, was I wrong!

What I found out about the SRS system

The SRS system consists of motion or “G” sensors, vehicle speed sensors, steering system sensors, vehicle angle sensors, and seat belt sensors. A computer module takes all the data from the sensors and determines its course of action. The system is enabled by a condition such as a vehicle speed above 25mph, and high deceleration. The SRS system will choose which, airbags to activate and which seat belts to tighten in the case of an accident.

No Protection At All

If the SRS light stays on, somewhere in the SRS system there is a fault. If a fault exists the SRS system defaults to disabled.  The airbags and the seatbelts will not work with an existing SRS fault. I made a decision that I needed to get serious about this light coming on again.

After my research on the SRS system, I now knew that I had a serious problem on my hands.

In the meantime

I need a reset code so I can get this vehicle to a dealer for repair. I found this:

I tried the ten key on and key off procedure and it worked. The light disappeared. I later went out and drove it to the store. The SRS light came back on for the return trip. Just need the time to get this vehicle to the dealer.

Conclusion

If the SRS light is blinking or stays on, there is a fault condition and the vehicle’s safety systems are not working, putting everyone in the vehicle at risk. If your vehicle is experiencing this same thing get it to a mechanic quickly. Your life and the lives of anyone in your vehicle are at risk.
