Review Golden Bowl

Recently I had dinner at the Golden Bowl. I consider it to be the only Chinese restaurant to consider when Chinese food comes to mind. My wife and my granddaughter filled out those at the table.

Please note that they(Golden Bowl of Hughson, Ca.) have moved from their original location. The new place is much larger(maybe 4 or 5 times larger dining area). It is still the same owner so the food flavor and preparation remains consistent. Their new location is on the corner of 5th Street and Hughson Ave in Hughson, CA. The street view below shows the location and building but Google Maps has not yet updated that location. That building should show the Golden Bowl.

What we ordered

Sweet and sour pork

My granddaughter ordered Sweet and sour pork.

Cashew chicken

My wife ordered the cashew chicken.

Mongolian beef extra spicy with extra spicy pork fried rice

I ordered Mongolian beef. Now I like the taste of Mongolian beef. Mongolian beef is normally listed as spicy, but I like it really spicy. Some time ago I mentioned it to the owner and she suggested that I order it extra spicy. Well, there was no turning back after that. So my order of extra spicy Mongolian beef is what I consider the best I have ever found. I love that the beef is always tender. It has never been chewy or gristly. They use a good cut of beef.

The onions and peppers(extra spicy) are always tender-crisp. The dish is normally served with steamed rice. Now I need to clarify why the photo is showing pork fried rice.

It’s not the restaurant, it’s me

Let me drag up my rant box out for this next rant. I don’t like steamed rice. It has the same flavor(to me) as eating paper. No I take that back paper would have more flavor. It doesn’t matter what rice(brand, brown, wild, etc.) it is, I still get no flavor. So anytime I am going to eat rice it has to have added flavors. In this case, I don’t normally care what type of fried rice it is as long as it is flavored with something. Ok, ok, I’ll put away the rant box.

Special rice

In this case, the rice ordered is pork(it could be beef or any other variety) fried rice, extra spicy. Normally, the pork fried rice is served flavorful but not spicy. The pork fried rice modification is a suggestion by the owner as she fine-tuned her dish to my likes and dislikes. I really like that she went out of her way to suggest this change to improve my experience at her restaurant. Excellent customer service.

The appetizer

The potstickers shown on the plate above is a double order. The three of us shared the order. The potstickers are currently six to an order and are very large as potstickers go. They stuff a good amount of meat mixture into each potsticker. Potsticker sauce rounds out the plate. You can always count on the potstickers being delicious.

Conclusion

The next time you start craving Chinese food take a little trip to Hughson, CA. as so many of us do. You will not be disappointed and you may find your goto place for Chinese food.
