Cleaning Ring Around the Burner

Do you have a ring around the burner? What is ring around the burner? Where did it come from? How do you get rid of it? All good questions when you are dealing with your ceramic cooktop.

What is it and Where did it come from?

That familiar ring is a combination of food and oils that have baked onto your ceramic stovetop surface, resulting in a hardened, burned-on ring around the burner. It’s just fact there will be splatters no matter how careful you are. The heat from the stove continues to cook it until it eventually turns black, the quicker you clean it up the easier it will be to clean up.

Best Cleaning Method

When you go to remove that ring the cooktop should be at room temperature. You never want to scrape your ring around the burner without lubrication. It will protect your ceramic cooktop from scratching. You will need to sprinkle some water and dish soap on the cold cooktop for lubrication. Using the scraper, with a low angle to the surface so as not to accidentally scratch or gouge the surface is the best method. Be sure to start with a new blade and turn the scraper over now and then for best results. Scrape the cold cooktop with a razor blade scraper to get most of the cooked on stuff off the cooktop. Clean up any scrapings and run your finger along the outside edge of the burner surface feeling for anything that the scraper may have missed.

Use a cleaner/polishing crème

Spread a good cooktop cleaner/polishing crème around the burner of your cooktop. I use a wet green scrubbing pad but if you want something a little less aggressive, try a Dobie Pad to remove any remaining gunk from around the burner. Clean off the cleaner/polish and use an old towel to buff the ceramic cooktop to a nice shine.
