RV tires are special, they will last well past their useful service age. Most recreational vehicles experience sporadic use. The wear on a tire you can see can be deceptive. Tires can be over ten years old and still look like they are new. So If you are buying an RV it’s important for you to know how to read the date code and use it to help you negotiate your RV deal based on what you find.

Reading the DOT code

Reading the code is simple once you know where to look and what the numbers mean. Finding the code is very easy. Look for the date code to be near the tire rim. I look for the “DOT” on the tire and then I know I’m in the right neighborhood for finding the date code. Look for the date code to have 4(four) numbers. The first two numbers represent the week of manufacture. The last two numbers represent the year of manufacture.
